Bonnie's CURRY Family

The Wilton Street, Belfast "Curry Girls"

. From Back row L to R - Elizabeth, Mary, Charlotte McCann Curry, Kathleen, Susanna
Front row L to R - Agnes, Ellen Close Curry (mother), Ellen

This Curry (or Corry as it was originally) comes from Co. Antrim, Ireland but, although it is not yet proven, the family probably came from Scotland pre 1850.

I have it as far back as THOMAS CORRY and his wife whom some of the family say was a pig farmer in Kells which is near Ballymena in the North of Ireland. His children moved to Belfast and, after his death, his wife evidently went to live with their children, it is thought her name was Mary Ann.

Somewhere in this line there must have been a GIBSON as that name has been passed down through the generations and used as a Christian name.

For at least 4 generations there has only been one son and many daughters but, obviously the Australian sunshine has done something and finally we have 3 Curry grandsons to carry on the name.

Some of the names that have married into the Curry line are CLOSE, COUSINS, DAWSON, GILFILLAN, HAMILL, HAMILTON, HARPER, LYTTLE, McCANN, MORRISON, ORR, SLOAN, SMYTH & TODD. Other related families McKINSTRY & VANCE.

If anyone is interested in any of these lines please contact Bonnie

All these names are from Belfast except for my husband who came to Australia, his two sisters who emigrated to Canada (Hamilton & Todd) and his mother’s Aunt, Charlotte McCann who married and shifted to Chicago, USA.
