Bonnie's PRIGG Family

This family is from my maternal great grandmother, Isabelle Elizabeth Prigg’s line. Unfortunately, I have only been able to get back to the 1750s and, at that time, the family were living in Gazeley in Suffolk, England, later we find them living in Bardwell, SFK.

William Prigg was a shepherd back in Suffolk but he became gardener to the Duke of Grafton (Gov. Fitzroy of NSW) after arriving here. He, his wife Eliza Ruffels and family of 4, his brother Henry and wife Jane Fothergill all came out together on the "John & Lucy" which left from Liverpool and arrived in Sydney on 6 May 1857.

William and Eliza had 2 more children here in Australia and Henry and Jane had 4 up to 1870. Whilst Henry was still found living in Australia in 1876 at 198 Marsden St, Parramatta, after that they just disappeared and I have been unable to find them anywhere. I would appreciate any help I can get on Henry and Jane’s descendants.

William’s family prospered in NSW and all the children, except one, had very large families and the name is quite common in the region around Newcastle. One of the family, Wally Prigg, represented Australia in Rugby League 3 times and, it was through this fact that I was able to trace my line, along with lots of help from my cousin Pat Seton.
