Bonnie's RUFFELS/RUFFLES Family
Robert & Mary Ann Ruffels
Robert is my 2nd great Grannie's half brother,
and Mary Ann is their 2nd cousin and his wife.
This line I have found scattered all over the UK and in many other countries. They appear to use either of the spellings, in fact I have found this so, even in descendants of the same family. I personally have been researching in England, New Zealand and Australia. I know some of them went to Canada also but I have not had much luck finding them as many of my letters have not been answered. Australia abounds in the name and all bar one of the people I have contacted have been descendants of the same line…the other one we think maybe, but have yet to prove it.
One of the photos shown above is that of Robert Ruffels the half brother of my 2nd great-grandmother, Eliza Ruffels. Their father was William Ruffels 1795-1886 and, after the death of his 1st wife Anne CROSBY (mother of James, Samuel, my Eliza and Robert No 1), he married Lydia KENT and they had Robert No 2 (shown above), Miriam, Elizabeth and Emma. The other photo is that of his wife Mary Ann Ruffels, who also happens to be his and Eliza's 2nd cousin.
With the great help of Sandra Stevens from Suffolk, England (the real guru of the UK side) and several others who have interests in one part of the line or another, the line has been traced back to John Ruffles (1589-1657) and his wife Susan of Suffolk and from there, down through their son William (1625-1688) and his wife Martha JESSUP.
I have only chosen a minuscule percentage of this family to put up on my Web Page, as to put on the lot would be just too cumbersome, as they were all prolific bearers. There are several surnames that appear to have married into this line quite regularly, the main one being CROSBY and the Christian names that appear to be used most every generation are Edward, William, Robert and John and, of course, Susan.
