Bonnie's SLEE Family
Once again this is only a very tiny amount of my Slee line which I have spent many years putting together. The line begins in Devon with a William Slee who was born in Coldridge about 1525 and my particular part of it comes down through a Noah Slee 1750-1830, whose granddaughter married into one of his brother Benjamin’s descendants.
Noah left Devon and made his way to London where he made his fortune as a pawn broker and later as a Vinegar manufacturer. He lost 3 wives, the first 2 having had one child each and the third had 6 to him. Amongst his sons was another Noah (born London) who just happened to be born around the same time as a cousin of his in Devon. This other Noah came to London to live and, this has made things very difficult as it is unsure which of the Noahs actually married a Sarah Button in 1808 in London…as both of the boys had 2nd marriages.
I am descended from Josiah, the son of Noah Snr. Josiah was not in good health so he, his wife and 5 children came out and settled in Tasmania, Australia in 1832. There they had another child but soon after this Josiah died. His descendants later settled in Victoria, Australia where many remain to this day.
In my time researching this line, I have done many of the lines that came down from the above William Slee, left Devon and settled in London, gathering wills, history etc, all of which I am happy to share with any of the descendants of these lines.
